Reports are flooding in today that a Melbourne woman, after being given the option, decided to take the stairs instead of taking the escalator that sat mere feet away from her.
Lazy onlookers being whisked up by the magic flying staircase have been baffled by the move, with some suggesting they wish they “had the willpower” to attempt such a feat.
Financial consultant Michael Bolt who witnessed the event says “I usually climb a few of the escalator stairs as it’s approaching the top, but I don’t really ever see a reason to do the whole flight if I don’t have to?”
“Who am I trying to impress?” Says Bette Smith who gave birth to 5 children and witnessed the birth of her 2 grandchildren on the Flinders Street escalator over her 35 years of travel.
When asked if she was trying to lose weight or was in the middle of training for some kind of athletic event the woman state “I figured I should try and get some steps in” further stating “I don’t know if it was worth it. I broke a sweat about half way up and now I look oily for my meeting”.
City Council Worker Nathan Burke who manages the cleaning staff of Flinders Street and surrounding stations revealed that he’ll “probably have to give them a mop now”.
